CHAPTER FIVE: THE ART OF MULTI-DIMENSIONAL LIVING® AND THIRD LEVEL TEACHINGS
APHORISM #1: Multidimensional approaches to spirituality also exist on step three of the spiritual ladder, although they are often less apparent.
APHORISM #2: Even with fully enlightened teachers, the pointers they use to describe Ultimate Reality are inevitably tied to their own predominant strength of personality.
APHORISM #3: Sages who teach out of the stream of Bhakti Yoga (the heart-centered approach) will most often describe the enlightened state in terms such as "Love" or "Bliss."
APHORISM #4: Sages who teach out of the stream of Laya or Kundalini Yoga (the warrior path) will emphasize terms like "Force", "Power", "Light" or "Shakti" (Energy).
APHORISM #5: Sages who teach out of the stream of Gyana Yoga (the path of intellect) will emphasize that the Ultimate Reality is "not this-not this", or that it is pure "Knowledge."
APHORISM #6: Sages who teach out of the stream of Karma Yoga (the path of selfless service) will emphasize the need to "Feel" the Ultimate Reality.
COMMENTARY: The later teaching of Adi Da is a good example of such a third level, Karma Yogic approach.
APHORISM #7: Sages who teach out of the stream of Raja Yoga (the path of beauty or the charm of the senses) will emphasize words like "Pure Beauty," "Pure Love," and "Satisfaction."
APHORISM #8: Sages who teach out of the stream of Hatha Yoga (the path of physical cultivation, which includes more logical and scientific approaches to spirituality) will emphasize more technical and rigorously philosophic descriptions of the Ultimate Reality, or, alternatively, terms that point to the "Silence" and "Transcendence" of the Absolute.
APHORISM #9: Sages who teach out of the stream of Tantra will emphasize terms or expressions that shock the disciple into an appreciation of the Ultimate Reality. There will be a reliance on highly unconventional language to describe Ultimate Reality.
APHORISM #10: Sages who teach out of the stream of Surya Yoga will emphasize expressions that appeal, in an integral manner, to the heart, mind and will of each seeker. They will most often use wordless pointers, namely, their own radiance, to convey the Ultimate Knowledge.
APHORISM #11: Sages in every stream will also tend to rely on the expressions of an Integral Yoga (the simultaneous development of heart, mind and will) in describing Ultimate Reality, knowing that such expressions will appeal to the largest number of people. However, underneath this more integral language will be a lively undercurrent of expression and nuance that is based in the sage’s predominant strength of personality and spiritual approach.
APHORISM #12: If the goal is One, if the Ultimate "Experience" is One, then any expression of it is not. It is part of Conventional Knowledge, which is multidimensional.
COMMENTARY: The latest issue of What is Enlightenment? "Does Anyone know what they’re Talking about? is a classic example of how a group of reasonably enlightened spiritual teachers can all be interviewed and end up saying very different things in the name of enlightenment and the road to it. That this should be a surprise to the editors of the magazine is proof of how little The Art of Multi-Dimensional Living® is understood or practiced in the world today.
APHORISM #13: The paths of Bhakti, Karma and Raja Yoga (ruled by benefic planets) all tend to emphasize positive language in describing the Ultimate. The paths of Laya and Hatha Yoga (ruled by malefic planets) tend to emphasize negative language in describing the Ultimate. The path of Gyana Yoga (ruled by Mercury which is benefic or malefic by association) also emphasizes negative language (neti-neti), but can include positive descriptions as well. The path of Surya Yoga (integral in nature) uses both approaches, as does the path of Tantra.
APHORISM #14: The paths emphasizing positive expressions relating to the Absolute also tend to give greater weight to the Immanent aspect of the Divine. The paths emphasizing the negative expressions tend to give greater weight to the Transcendence aspect of the Divine. The Solar, Mercurial and Nodian paths tend to emphasize both aspects equally.
COMMENTARY: Read elsewhere on this web-site to understand why, until the advent of The Art of Multi-Dimensional Living®, Gyana Yoga has failed for the last few thousand years to properly emphasize the Immanent value of the Absolute.
APHORISM #15: Until seekers begin to understand how multidimensionality of approach interfaces with third level spiritual teachings, they will remain confused by the many conflicting assertions about the nature of Ultimate Reality.
