2-4-98 PAUL GAUGUIN

As a young man I was enamored with the paintings of Paul Gauguin. His themes were simple and earthy: the life of the native people living in the South Sea islands. However, behind the strongly defined forms depicted in his paintings lay something magical, intangible and enticing. Only with the discovery of The Art of Multi-Dimensional Living (TM) did it become clear to me what Gauguin was had accomplished.

Gauguin's career nature was governed by the Moon. Those who think that any planetary significator indicates one "right" profession are misguided. How that profession will manifest is greatly affected by the caste nature and also life's circumstances such as status and wealth.

Gauguin's first profession was as a sailor (the Moon governs water and the sea). His second profession was as a stockbroker (the Moon is a significator of financial wealth and was so configured in Gauguin's case as to intensify this energy). However, Gauguin was of the Brahmin caste and neither of his earlier careers satisfied this aspect of his nature.

So what is the highest form of a lunar career? The field of myth and archetype. The Moon is the mother; she who nourishes, and nothing nourishes humanity more than primordial myth and archetype. It not only supports us consciously, but also subconsciously.

Gauguin's paintings are recognized as highly symbolic in nature. They feed our inner psyche. This was that intangible factor that kept drawing me to his work even though I could not understand why. In this lies his greatest genius.

The fact that he deserted a wife and five children to accomplish this great work is due to a weak marriage nature, an indomitable will, a spiritual nature which needed solitude and simplicity for its enrichment and a career nature which thrived in a South Sea island environment.

If you are lacking a certain inner nourishment, find and hang one of Gauguin's paintings and watch it work its magic.

A final note: strong Brahmins often sacrifice relationships, status and money to accomplish their work. Gauguin tried to commit suicide when he was an older man largely because of the hardships caused by these sacrifices. I can only hope that his last days were lived in the fulfillment of a great work well accomplished.
