7-05-98 SWAMI KRIYANANDA

One of the last of the eastern style gurus, Donald Walters or Swami Kriyananda, who founded the Ananda Community in California, has finally gone the way of virtually all the other teachers of this type. He has just lost a court battle in which he was charged with taking advantage of his position to gain sexual control over various members of his community.

His star configurations indicate both great strengths and great weaknesses of personality. The weaknesses are in the fields of living related to interpersonal relationships (including sexuality and intimacy) and primal desire nature. The strengths are in the spiritual nature (as surprising as that sounds), the play nature and the career nature.

What has been apparent to me from the very beginning is Swami Kriyananda's ineptness in dealing with relative knowledge, situations and events. This is caused by his reliance upon a form of astrology that is totally bankrupt. He has not only relied on this knowledge, he taught it to others as an extension of his "spiritual vision!" Unfortunately, this self-delusion is no worse than that of many of the other gurus from the east. All of them end up supporting Vedic astrology and other applied Vedic disciplines even though these disciplines have become so eroded that, as presently practiced, they inevitably cause more harm than good.
