8-8-98 MATTHEW FOX

This former Catholic theologian is a wonderful example of a fully empowered Surya Yogin, a man on the cutting edge of all things spiritual and capable of the kind of creative thinking that only a decadent church could think heretical. He understands that the true Catholic doctrine remains vibrant in the lives and writings of some of the early church fathers like Meister Eckhart. He is more than capable of tackling the difficult writings of the Saint Thomas Aquinas, giving them new clarity and expanding their meaning and relevance for our own time. His book entitled "The Cosmic Christ" has dealt a deathblow to the fundamentalist Christian doctrines even if it will take time before this fact is fully evident. This is a man for all seasons, bright and optimistic, yet capable of fierce dialogue and debate, soft and gentle, yet hard as nails, an intellectual of the highest grade, yet full of compassion.

I enjoy everything this man has written and I am glad that he did not bend to the dictates of the Catholic hierarchy. It would have been out of character with his spiritual nature and would also have handicapped his inspired expression of true religiosity.

This is the kind of man I would hope to meet on a overnight train ride just after he and I had both finished up all our work. He seems to be an infinite reservoir of keen insights into the nature of body, soul and spirit and how they can be integrated through a heartfelt relationship with the Cosmic Christ.

May God bless you Matthew and keep you strong in your work.
