3-24-98 NIXON, AGNEW AND DESTINY
We sometime s fail to remember that it was not just Nixon who went down in disgrace, we also have the ignominy of his vice-president, Spiro Agnew. Inwardly, these two men shared much in common: a love of power and its acquisition, but their emotional natures were so dramatically different that I think Nixon eventually came to dislike Agnew and, early on, held him in contempt for his flagrant behavior. How he felt about Agnew after his own fall from power I do not know, but I suspect he may have had a change of heart.
For those individuals who do not appreciate the cosmological fact of an after-life and eventual reincarnation, the lives of these two men can only be seen as tragic. For those with deeper spiritual perception, their lives are fascinating examples of how daily existence is instructional in our pursuit of God or enlightenment. The doctrine of reincarnation does not imply that the personalities of Nixon and Agnew carry over into a future life. It is a core essence which is maintained and that soul essence is made up of fundamental attachments and desires which shape the future personality. Only when an individual frees himself from these psychological needs or fundamental forms of Ignorance, is there no more necessity for rebirth. Note that I use the word "necessity"; release from ignorance does not preclude a voluntary choice to take on a new incarnation for the betterment of humanity.
Through a study of the principles of The Art of Multi-Dimensional Living in relation to these two men, it is apparent that Spiro Agnew is achieving enormous spiritual benefit through his misfortunes. He is in the process of learning that real power comes to us when we are instruments of Spirit rather than when we act from the misconception that we are independent agents and doers. It is also apparent that he will be able to apply this lesson in his future life to great avail.
In the case of Richard Nixon however, there has been no such overriding spiritual benefit. If anything, the future personality, an extension of the Nixon of the twentieth century, will be more determined than ever to achieve external success and influence. This does not imply future unlawful behavior, but it certainly does not preclude it.
