The Savoir Faire product suite is targeted at Essbase configuration management and network administration. Configuration management entails the handling of all parameters used to configure an Essbase server. This ranges from application and database definitions to the access rights of an individual user to a cell of data. For network administration, Savoir Faire offers products to expose the Essbase server as a network resource. In turn, these products are used to transfer configuration data between the individual servers. This greatly eases the task of providing uniformity across the enterprise. A simple example relates to employee turnover and the administration of user groups. Savoir Faire manages the group definition at the network level allowing a user to be added or deleted from a group on all Essbase servers in the enterprise. This was formerly a manual task. User and group access rights to Essbase servers, applications and databases combined with security filter definitions define Essbase’s robust security model. Maintaining this model in the Essbase enterprise is a formidable task. By understanding security data, Savoir Faire products greatly ease management of the security model as well as mitigate the risk that a security hole exists. All Savoir Faire products adhere to the client/server model to provide their capabilities on the network. This is the cornerstone of the Savoir Faire philosophy, providing network flexibility to the Essbase enterprise. Furthermore, all products are written in Java, so they are platform independent.
